The taxi picks us up
at 8:00 am and takes only 20 minutes to get to the airport. We were
expecting something closer to a 40 minute journey. Anyway, we board
the TAP flight for Lisbon at 10:15 am but don’t take off until
11:00 am. We get great views of the bay, the enormous
Vasco da Gama bridge as well as
the hills and wind turbines around Lisbon as we approach that city.
The pilot seems to be in a bit of a hurry after landing as we were
taxiing at close to warp speed. Our Lisbon accommodation, in old town
is on the liftless third floor. It’s a three metre wide newly
renovated apartment with views across a narrow street of abandoned
buildings. Walking to the supermarket is not for the faint hearted as
it’s down steep steps and even worse, up steep steps carrying
groceries.
